Homework reminders for next class

ENGLISH 9:
Period 2 & 7: Please read pp. 22-29, the "Demeter" chapter in HGM.  Please review the mythology family tree we went over in class and the HGM stories so far.  Our first quiz is next class, and I'm going to ask you How/Why questions about our mythology discussions so far.  For example, you might see something like, "How did Rhea help her son rebel against his father?" or "Why did Zeus decide to eat Metis?"

Keep up with your Independent Reading as well.  Find 10 minutes here and there throughout your day to get your pages in.

Period 4: Read pp. 15 -21 in Heroes, Gods, and Monsters.  Get used to reading with a pencil and marking passages that surprise, interest, or confuse you.  What about these passages are noteworthy?

HONORS BRITISH LIT:
Periods 3 & 8:  Please read up to but not including "Beowulf Fights Grendel's Mother."

In Beowulf's first fight, he is the defender of a space against an intruder.  Now he is the intruder.   Is this killing as morally justifiable as the other?

Audio clips of the translator, Irish poet Seamus Heaney, reading these sections are shared with you in the class folder.  Check them out!
